We can't stress enough the importance of good quality tires for your street bike. It's not about us making money, it's about keeping you safe. You're tires are the only point of contact between your bike and the road, they keep you safe around every curve and over every bump. High quality tires provide increased grip in diverse conditions thanks to a higher quality rubber compound. They improve handling to allow for precise manuvering and acceleration, along with shortening stopping distance by up to 17%. Most modern dual-compound tires provide a harder centre compound for increased longevity and a softer outer compound for cornering grip.

One thing we see too often is worn out tires, it is crucial for your safety to check if your tires are safe for the road. Almost all street bike tires have a wear indicator bar, even if the tire still looks 'fine' when the tread has reached the indicator bar, it needs to be changed. If you see any visible damage to the tire such as cracks, cuts, bubbles, wires, and/or buldges; the tire needs to be changed. Techinically a street tire can be plugged if it has a puncture in it but in our professional opinion it's not worth the risk. Even the smallest hole can damage the structural intergrety of the tire and because street bike tires are made from a softer rubber compound than automotive tires, plugging them is not something we do. Tire age is also a huge factor that most people over look, every tire has a manufacturers date on it in the format of month/year; for example, 0722 means the tire was made in July of 2022. Even if the tire looks fine but the manufacturers date is over 5 years ago the tire should be changed. As tires age the rubber compound hardens and will deteriorate.

REMINDER: When you have a new set of tires put on your street bike you need to TAKE IT EASY for the first couple hundred kilometers. Street tires are made in moulds that are coated with an oil based substance to prevent the tire from sticking to the mould. Residue from that substance sticks to the tires and can decrease grip until it's worn off!
